A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Southwark Playhouse
Sound Designer
“This clever and witty reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic promises to take you on all those adventures you wanted to go on when you were a kid, exploring the madness of love and all those other adult emotions through the eyes of a younger generation.”
As part of Southwark Playhouse’s Shakespeare for Schools scheme, as well as ticketed performances, local schools were invited to enjoy the show for free at special daytime matinees.
Since this adaptation positioned the original text within a world imagined by a group of children during playtime, it was important that the sound design reflected the imagination and playfulness of young minds. The focal point of the shows sound design was the palette of magical sounds throughout. More subtle ambience, and integration of music, supported the lighting and set design in bringing the audience with the characters to the imagined places.
