The people of Lavender Hill

Quarantine / Battersea Arts Centre

Sound Designer

“The people of is a complex, transient, portrait of place – made to be experienced live, outdoors, on the street where it is created. The project features local workers as the performers, local businesses as the performance space, and fragments of everyday conversations as the content.”

I worked with Quarantine as Sound Designer for this project, as part of “A Public Address” - their takeover of Battersea Arts Centre. This audio walk subverts the usual historical walking tour, with the stops along the way being local businesses, where listeners are invited to listen to the people who work there.

The sound design of The people of Lavender Hill is composed of recorded interviews, field recordings from the street and the businesses on it, and composed elements which act as a stylised response to the street and its people.
